Course Selection
At Warragul Regional College, we place a high value on supporting students to make informed decisions about their education and career pathways as they transition through and beyond secondary school. We provide all students with a range of experiences to learn more about themselves and opportunities beyond school, and ensure all students receive high-quality information that supports them to make informed decisions about education and career
Year 10 students complete a week of work experience in term 2 to help them explore career opportunities, and all Year 9 and 10 students participate in an extensive course counselling program across term 2-3, culminating in a course counselling interview between the student, their parent, and a trained course counsellor.
Parents play a crucial role during this important phase as students begin making decisions that will shape their future. The information on this page is designed to help parents engage in constructive conversations with their children about course selection options.
How parents can support students
Be Interested.
In the weeks leading up to your child’s course selections, engage with them about their action plan and thoughts.
Show interest and support without pressuring them to have everything figured out. It’s normal for teenagers to be unsure about their future careers, and many will explore multiple paths or work in fields that don’t yet exist.
Be Informed.
Explore the information on this page using the links to the relevant year levels, and attend the Senior Information Evening.
Be Engaged.
Trying to figure out career pathways can be stressful for some students. Providing a listening ear and a shoulder to learn on can make a big difference.
If your child is in year 9 or 10 you should make sure you book a course counselling interview in term 3, and all parents can make a booking to speak with a member of our careers team at any time.
